Estate plans: Why you need more than just a Will with Kate Silburn

May 18┃1:00 PM ┃At the Chabad Jewish Center, 3800 W. 144th Ave. #B1400
Many people think that an estate plan is just a Will, but a Will is only one part of it. A Will only comes into effect after you die and concerns the division of your assets and property. There are other elements of estate plans such as Powers of Attorney and Living Wills that apply while you’re still alive and ensure that you continue to live in the way you want, even if you can no longer care for yourself or express your wishes. Attend this workshop by Kate Silburn, elder law attorney, to find out what the critical elements of an estate plan are and how they benefit you and your family.

This presentation includes a complimentary lunch.

  • Kate Silburn, Elder Law Attorney, Rocky Mountain Elder Law

Kate’s credentials of a Masters of Divinity and Juris Doctor, as well as her role as a hospice chaplain, give her unique insight into the challenges facing older people at the end of their lives. She founded Rocky Mountain Elder Law in 2019 to help the elderly and anyone preparing for end-of-life circumstances. Rocky Mountain Elder Law practices all facets of elder law, including estate planning, estate administration, probate litigation, guardianships, and conservatorships. Rocky Mountain Elder Law is available to support clients in Denver’s Metro area, Colorado’s Front Range, and high mountain communities.

The Top 10 Food as Medicine Tips with Michelle MacDonald, MS, RDN, CDCES

September 7┃1:00 PM ┃At the Chabad Jewish Center, 3800 W. 144th Ave. #B1400
A nutrition expert shares top diet tips for longevity in an insightful and interactive presentation
  • A healthy diet may add years to your life, and life to your years. This is exemplified by Blue Zones, areas of the world where people live longer than average—people reach age 100 at 10 times greater rates than in the US and are largely free of chronic disease.

A healthy diet can help us “dodge disease.” As one example, heart disease does not have to be part of the “natural” progression of your life. Some people have low cholesterol throughout their lives and demonstrate a near absence of heart disease. A heart-healthy diet may help you avoid heart disease, the #1 cause of death in the US and worldwide.

If you have a health issue, a healthy diet can be a therapy:

    • If you have high blood sugar, it may put your diabetes into remission or lower your A1C.

    • If you have high blood pressure, it may reduce your BP by 10 units or more.

    • If you have high cholesterol, it may lower your cholesterol by up to 30% within 3 months.

    • And if you have high triglycerides, it can lower triglycerides even more than that, even more quickly.

And if you are age 70-75 or have already had a heart attack, and you feel that “the damage has already been done,” a heart-healthy diet may reduce your risk of another heart attack or of dying from heart disease by up to 70%. This is remarkable since some of the best drugs, the statins, by comparison, reduce this risk by just 30%.

The earlier you start, the better, and it’s never too late to start.

Join Michelle to discuss how real health comes from real whole foods in a friendly and fun format.
